When to Use This Skill

  • User wants to reach out to influencers or creators for brand partnerships
  • User needs pitch templates for influencer collaboration
  • User is planning an influencer marketing campaign and needs outreach sequences
  • User wants to structure compensation models (flat fee, commission, product gifting)
  • User needs follow-up templates for non-responsive influencers

Core Principle

LEAD WITH VALUE FOR THE CREATOR — EVERY PITCH MUST ANSWER "WHAT'S IN IT FOR THEM" BEFORE ASKING FOR ANYTHING.

Workflow

Phase 1: Define Campaign Parameters

  1. Confirm the product or service being promoted
  2. Identify the target audience the user wants to reach
  3. Determine budget range (or if product-only gifting)
  4. Set campaign goals: awareness, conversions, content creation, or all three
  5. Confirm preferred platforms (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, podcast, newsletter)

Phase 2: Build Influencer Targeting Criteria

  1. Define ideal influencer profile:
    • Follower range (nano: 1K-10K, micro: 10K-50K, mid: 50K-500K, macro: 500K+)
    • Content style and niche alignment
    • Engagement rate minimum (aim for 3%+ for nano/micro)
    • Geographic relevance
  2. Output a targeting brief the user can use to find candidates

Phase 3: Create Outreach Sequence

  1. Write the initial pitch email/DM using this structure:

Initial Outreach Template:

Subject: Loved your [specific content piece] — collab idea

Hi [Name],

I've been following your content on [platform] for a while — your [specific post/video title] really resonated with me because [genuine reason].

I'm [Your Name], founder of [Brand]. We make [one-sentence product description] for [target audience].

I think your audience would genuinely benefit from [product] because [specific reason tied to their content niche]. Here's what I had in mind:

- You'd receive [product/compensation details]
- Full creative freedom on how you present it
- [Additional perk: affiliate commission, exclusive discount code for their audience, etc.]

No pressure at all — if this sounds interesting, I'd love to hop on a 15-minute call this week to chat details.

[Your Name]
[Website]
  1. Write follow-up sequence (3 touches max):

Follow-Up 1 (5 days later):

Subject: Re: Collab idea — quick follow-up

Hi [Name],

Just bumping this up in case it got buried. I know your inbox is probably wild.

Quick recap: I'd love to send you [product] and explore a partnership. Totally flexible on format — could be a story mention, a dedicated post, or even just an honest review.

Either way, keep crushing it with your content.

[Your Name]

Follow-Up 2 (10 days after first follow-up):

Subject: Last note from me — no worries either way

Hi [Name],

Final follow-up from me — I respect your time. If the timing isn't right, totally understand.

If you're ever open to collabs in the future, feel free to reach out anytime: [email].

Best,
[Your Name]
  1. STOP after 3 touches. Do not send more.

Phase 4: Structure Compensation

  1. Present one compensation model based on budget and influencer tier:
Influencer Tier Recommended Model Typical Range
Nano (1K-10K) Product gifting + affiliate Product + 15-25% commission
Micro (10K-50K) Flat fee + affiliate $200-$1,000 + 10-20% commission
Mid (50K-500K) Flat fee $1,000-$10,000 per deliverable
Macro (500K+) Flat fee + usage rights $5,000-$50,000+ per deliverable
  1. Draft a simple collaboration agreement covering:
    • Deliverables (number of posts, format, platform)
    • Timeline and posting deadlines
    • Content approval process (one round of feedback max)
    • Usage rights (can the brand repurpose the content?)
    • Payment terms (50% upfront, 50% on delivery is standard)
    • FTC disclosure requirements (mandatory)

Phase 5: Deliver Complete Package

  1. Output all materials in a single organized document:
    • Targeting brief
    • Initial outreach template (personalized to their brand)
    • Follow-up sequence (2 follow-ups)
    • Compensation structure
    • Collaboration agreement outline

Example 1: Skincare Brand Targeting Micro-Influencers

Campaign: GlowRoot Botanicals launching a new vitamin C serum, targeting skincare micro-influencers on Instagram.

Targeting Brief:

  • Platform: Instagram
  • Follower range: 10K-50K
  • Niche: skincare routines, clean beauty, dermatology-adjacent
  • Engagement rate: 4%+

  • Content style: educational, before/after, routine-based

Pitch:

Subject: Loved your barrier repair series — collab idea

Hi Sarah,

I've been following your skincare content for months — your barrier repair series genuinely changed how I think about layering actives. The way you break down ingredient lists is so accessible.

I'm Jamie, founder of GlowRoot Botanicals. We make plant-based serums formulated for sensitive skin.

We're launching a new 15% vitamin C serum with bakuchiol, and I immediately thought of you — your audience cares about efficacy without irritation, which is exactly what we designed this for.

Here's what I had in mind:
- Full-size product kit (serum + SPF, $120 value)
- $500 flat fee for one Reel + two Stories
- 20% affiliate commission on sales through your unique code
- Full creative freedom — no scripts

Would you be open to a quick 15-minute call this week?

Example 2: SaaS Tool Targeting YouTube Creators

Campaign: TaskPilot (project management app) targeting productivity YouTubers for sponsored integrations.

Targeting Brief:

  • Platform: YouTube
  • Follower range: 50K-200K
  • Niche: productivity, Notion workflows, freelancer tools
  • Engagement rate: 5%+ comment-to-view ratio
  • Geography: English-speaking
  • Content style: tutorials, tool reviews, workflow breakdowns

Pitch:

Subject: Your Notion workflow video — integration idea

Hi Marcus,

Your "Ultimate Freelancer Notion Setup" video is bookmarked on my browser — I've watched it three times while rebuilding our own internal workflows. Genuinely useful stuff.

I'm Priya, head of partnerships at TaskPilot. We're a project management tool built specifically for freelancers and small agencies.

We just shipped a Notion integration that auto-syncs tasks, and I think a walkthrough from you would be incredibly valuable for your audience — most of them are exactly the freelancers struggling with tool sprawl.

Here's the offer:
- $3,000 flat fee for a 60-90 second integrated mention in a relevant video
- Free TaskPilot Pro account for life ($228/year value)
- Exclusive 30% discount code for your audience (first 3 months)
- One round of feedback on the script, then full creative control

Happy to jump on a call or just chat over email — whatever works best for you.

Compensation: $3,000 flat fee + lifetime Pro account + audience discount code

Recovery and Fallback

  • If no response after 3 touches, mark as "not now" and revisit in 90 days
  • If an influencer counters with a higher rate, evaluate against expected ROI (target 3-5x return on spend)
  • If engagement rate data is unavailable, request a media kit or check third-party tools (Social Blade, HypeAuditor)
  • If budget is zero, focus exclusively on nano-influencers with product-only gifting
  • If the user has never done influencer marketing, start with 3-5 nano/micro influencers as a test batch before scaling

Constraints

  • FTC compliance is mandatory — all sponsored content must include clear disclosure (#ad, #sponsored, or platform partnership labels)
  • Never promise specific ROI or sales numbers to influencers
  • Do not send mass-blast identical pitches — every outreach must reference specific content from that creator
  • Maximum 3 follow-ups per influencer — do not spam
  • Always include an opt-out path in follow-ups
  • Content approval should be limited to one round — do not micromanage creators
  • All compensation terms must be documented in writing before content is created
